How to Include Lewis & Clark in Your Will or Living Trust

A discussion with a Lewis & Clark gift officer will help match your goals with the college’s needs so that you may word a bequest to fund a specific purpose, such as an endowed scholarship. The following is the suggested, legal wording for your bequest:

I give and bequeath to Lewis & Clark College located at Portland, Oregon, (written dollar amount, or percentage of the estate or of the residuary estate, or description of property) for its general purposes (or a specific use).

Bequest for a specific purpose

I give and bequeath to Lewis & Clark College, located at Portland, Oregon, (written dollar amount, or percentage of the estate or of the residuary estate, or description of property) for (specific purpose) at (the undergraduate, graduate, or law school). In the event that such use shall become impractical, then for such purpose as the trustees of Lewis & Clark College at their discretion shall determine.

When making a bequest, keep in mind the following:

  • Always consult your attorney or other professional about your estate plan.
  • Meet with a Lewis & Clark development officer to align your goals with our giving opportunities.
  • Notify Lewis & Clark of your decision. We want to thank you and stay in touch.
